About Me

My name is Heather. I am more at home in the kitchen than almost anywhere else--unless, of course, it's hanging out with friends at my favorite local coffee shop, going antique shopping, or getting to spend a lazy Saturday doing things around my house.

I said that I'd never write a blog. I guess those are now my "famous last words."

This is my "journal" of sorts in my new season of going without gluten, and transitioning to natural sugars. In October of 2011, I found that I am sensitive to gluten. Also, consuming great amounts of sugar had left me an extremely emotional basket-case. So with the help of my homeopathic doctor, the decision was made: no gluten, and natural sugars (such as agave) only sparingly. Having had digestive issues in the past, I finally made the choice--for myself--to truly take care of my body.

Some people may feel deprived if they were to do this, and only be able to focus on the foods they can't eat. I've been on various "restricted diets" before, and have felt this exact same way. But this time it's different. Within two days of going without gluten and sugar, I felt like a vastly different person. So now, when faced with an opportunity to "cheat" in my eating, I choose not to--and the decision is usually pretty simple. Why? Because I feel so much better eating what I do now, and I don't want to go back to the way I felt before. Going gluten free has enabled me to have energy again (physical and emotional), and is allowing me to once again find joy in the everyday moments of life. That is something I hope to never lose the wonder of...And I also hope that I never again settle for less, but embrace today, choose to be fully present, and relish in this moment in life.

I hope through this blog, I can encourage and inspire others. Even if you aren't gluten-free, have fun exploring these recipes with me! And yes, maybe even learn to play with your food :)

I do know this: I love cooking and baking. And this is a plus going gluten-free. And as I've started looking at more recipes, it gets me excited about cooking again...and even trying things I've never tried before!

So as I go on this journey, I'm going to explore and discover...and then I'm going to share.
Come join me in my musings!

P.S. For even more about my story, you can read this post. Hope you enjoy the blog!
